Notes: | George Dixon Aked (1907-1989) was a painter, traveler and photographer. He was born in Bingley in West Yorkshire and studied art in Skipton, at the Slade School and then in Paris at Academie Julian. Aked exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1929, with the New English Art Club and with the London Group. After traveling extensively overseas he settled in Barbados, living there for many years. On his return to Britain he had several one man shows including a posthumous exhibition with Sally Hunter Fine Art in London. Malham TarnThis is an early landscape watercolour of Malham Tarn in the Yorkshire Dales most probably painted while a student in Skipton. Although a simple composition it captures the colours and natural beauty of the Tarn quite exquisitely. |
