| Notes: | Signed by artist I Gusti Putu Dormo, Taman Ubud, Bali and painted in the style of Walter Spies (Germany 1895 - 1942). This painting is a 1980''s duplicate of a Spies painting, Sawahlandschaft mit Gunung Agung (View across the sawahs to Gunung Agung) painted in 1937 and which sold at Christies Hong Kong for HK dollars 6.3 million in 2003 or roughly 70,000 GBP. Duplicating a famous painting is not unusual in Balinese art and is ment to not only complement the original work but also show the skill of the new artist. The focus on light and shadow in this painting emphasises the very spiritual character of Balinese art. |
